Chance to shine for Senegal's second garde at U19 World Cup training camp

DAKAR (Senegal) - Senegal are gathering for a training camp ahead of the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2019 with many new players hoping to use the camp as a chance to get a ticket for Greece.

Only four players from the Senegal team that reached the FIBA U18 African Championship 2018 Final will participate in the training camp at Marius Ndiaye Stadium from May 13-15 in the country's capital Dakar.

Cheikh Tidiane Faye, who averaged 10.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.1 steals last summer, is the biggest name back from the team for the 16-player camp, which also includes Mamadou Lamine Mbaye, Mamadou Thiam and Pape Malick Thiam from the U18 team.

The Senegal coaching staff will use the camp as a chance to see which players can serve as strong role players around their group of leaders who are playing abroad and not able to take part in the camp - including the Spain-based Biram Faye of Avila, Amar Sylla of Real Madrid, Khadim Fall with Caceres, Mouhamed Sow with Fuenlabrada and Cheikh Diop of Manresa; as well as captain Jean-Jacques Boissy.

The 16-man pool features four players from the SEED Academy - Abdoul Aziz Bandaogo, Serigne Fall, Serigne Saliou Mbaye and Boubacar Mboup - as well as Pape Malick Thiam and Moustapha Mboup from ASC Thies.

Senegal will face Lithuania, New Zealand and United States in Group A of the U19 World Cup, which runs from June 29-July 7 in Heraklion, Greece.
