    Turkey trim preliminary roster to 15 players

    ISTANBUL (2016 FIBA U17 World Championship) - Turkey have trimmed their preliminary squad for the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championship to 15 players.

    Eleven of the 12 players from the team that qualified for the country’s first U17 global spectacle are still in the running for the tournament from 23 June-03 July in Zaragoza.

    Turkey coach Fatih Elbas called back his top three scorers from last summer’s squad that finished third at the 2015 FIBA U16 European Championship - Onuralp Bitim, Ahmet Can Duran and Muhaymin Mustafa as well as 2000-born point guard talent Eray Akyuz.

    The four new players with hopes of playing in Spain are Furkan Ayca, Yigitcan Saybir, Yagizhan Selcuk and Erkan Senel.

    Missing from last year's team will be joint fourth-top scorer Ismet Baran Avsar.

    Turkey are making their debut at the FIBA U17 World Championship and will take on three-time reigning champions United States, Egypt and fellow first-timers Chinese Taipei in Group A.
