FSM Game Plan Built Around Youthful Energy

MANGILAO (Guam) - The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Women’s team are preparing for the FIBA Micronesian Cup 2022 with limited training, but plenty of youthful enthusiasm at the helm.

Assistant Coach, Juan Martin is confident the girls will enjoy the opportunity to play high level basketball against the best teams in the region.

“We have been training for two to three weeks so far and we have already seen a lot of improvement in the team,” Martin said.  “Finding a venue for training has been a challenge with restrictions in place and lots of basketball games happening on courts, so we have been doing a lot of fitness and conditioning work off the court.”

The FSM team will consist of national players who currently call Guam home due to travel restrictions from Micronesia.  Amongst the team, players are aged from 15 to 26 with several players still attending high school.

It will be great to see all of the girls in action, especially the younger ones as they will grow more confident throughout the tournament

“A few of the players also play together at the University of Guam so they will be familiar with conditions and be able to provide leadership on the court,” Martin said.

“There are mixed feelings amongst the group leading into the tournament, but they are mostly excited for the opportunity.  Skill wise, they will run the court well and work together to execute game plans, it will be good to watch.”
