Papua New Guinea and Fiji advance to FIBA Women's Melanesia Basketball Cup 2017 Final after Day 3

PAPUA NEW GUINEA (FIBA Women's Melanesia Basketball Cup 2017) – Finals matchups have been set, the Melanesia Cup and 2019 Pacific Games qualification is on the line. Fiji and Papua New Guinea will battle it out for the first-ever Women's Melanesia Basketball Cup.

Fiji has backed up yesterday's strong performance with another against New Caledonia. After a close first half, Fiji pulled away and showed a glimpse of their 2015 Pacific Games form that won them a Gold Medal. Letava Whippy starred again leading Fiji to victory, she has been the foundation for Fiji great form over the last two days. Fiji will need to keep up this form if they hope to take home the cup against an undefeated Papua New Guinea.

No-one has been able to knock off the host nation to this point of the event. Another stellar performance will see them matching against Fiji in the Cup Final. PNG overpowered Solomon Islands from the jump, getting out to a 12 point lead in the first half and building from there. Papua New Guinea managed to finish with a 50 point victory on their way to a Finals matchup with Fiji and a chance to win the first-ever Melanesia Cup.
