Mondelo has a twin-track focus as Spain confirm roster

MADRID (FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019 Qualifiers / 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup) – Spain head coach Lucas Mondelo is ready to embark on another big 12 months in the calendar for the reigning European champions.

The play-caller led his nation to the top of the podium at FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017 and has been tasked with masterminding the defense of their cherished silverware.

Mondelo has shown his intent by not only having one eye on the 2018 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup which Spain will host, but by naming his final roster for the FIBA Women's EuroBasket Women 2019 Qualifiers without the need for any wider squad.

Spain roster for FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2019 Qualifiers
Maria Araujo Maria Conde Anna Cruz Silvia Dominguez
Astou Ndour Laura Nicholls Cristina Ouvina Leonor Rodriguez
Leticia Romero Beatriz Sanchez Alba Torrens Marta Xargay

Nine of the title-winning side from Prague earlier this year remain, with Astou Ndour replacing Sancho Lyttle in the naturalized spot and both Cristina Ouvina and debutante Maria Araujo helping to fill the void left by the retired Laia Palau and injured Laura Gil.

"We will look to win and take steps in qualifying for the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2019, adapting the younger women to the dynamics of the selection," explained Mondelo.

"We will also start preparing things for the concentration of next summer and the great event of the 2018 FIBA Women's World Cup."

Spain will play in Group F against Bulgaria, Netherlands and Ukraine in the Qualifiers, tipping off in Sofia against Bulgaria and then hosting their Dutch counterparts in Valladolid.
