Philippines ready to shine in Amman after announcing final 12 players

MANILA (Philippines) - The Gilas Pilipinas will be aiming to cement their top tiers status when they take to the court at the 2021 FiBA Women's Asia Cup in Amman.

Head coach Pat Aquino has now assembled his squad and has been getting straight to work in a bid to squeeze the most from every precious minute as time ticks down to the big event.

“It’s good that we can finally start working together,” stated the play-caller.

"During these times, it’s a luxury to be able to focus on basketball and that’s why the team is thankful for this opportunity to practice in a safe environment.

"We have not been together as a team for a while now, so this is a chance for us to rebuild our chemistry with each other."

The experienced  quartet of Afril Bernardino, Janine Pontejos, Chack Cabinin and Clare Castro will look to lead the team. The first two averaged double digits in scoring at the last edition, with Cabinin having handed out almost five assists per game.

The roster also includes senior debutantes such as Ella Fajardo, Camille Clarin, Karl Ann Pingol and Kristine Cayabyab.

The Gilas Women are set for a difficult challenge, since they will face China, New Zealand and Chinese Taipei in Group B.
