Day 1: Hosts India cap off an exciting day with emphatic win over Uzbekistan

BENGALURU (FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017) - Hosts India capped off Day 1 at the FIBA Women's Asia Cup 2017 with a big win even as Singapore and Kazakhstan also notched separate victories.

In the day's first Division B game, SEABA side Singapore completely demolished Oceania squad Fiji, 103-38. The Singaporeans led form the get-go and put a shooting clinic on display. They nailed 45% of their field goals en route to their first win. Jayne Tan was Singapore's best player with 21 points and 4 rebounds, while Tiyana Kainamoli tossed in 9 points for Fiji.

This was followed by an exciting match between promotion hopefuls Kazakhstan and Lebanon. The Lebanese were able to stick with the Kazakhs for one half before the Central Asian queens opened up a 13-point lead by the end of the third quarter. The Lady Cedars tried to mount a last ditch rally in the final frame, but they just could not overhaul the deficit as the Kazakhs survived, 62-54. Nadezhda Kondrakova unloaded an 11-point, 18-rebound double-double for Kazakhstan, while Lama Moukaddem's 10 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds went down the drain for Lebanon.

Home team India ended the action-packed day by tallying their own win at Uzbekistan's expense, 92-76. India had trouble protecting the basketball as they gave up 19 turnovers, but they compensated for this by hitting 10 three-pointers and shooting 50.0% from the field overall. Anitha Paul Durai top-scored for them with 28 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 triples. The Uzbeks, meanwhile, could not really capitalize on India's mistakes, making only 38.2% of their field goal attempts. Yuliya Kashuba was their most efficient player with 5 points, 8 assists and 2 boards.

Day 1 winners Singapore and Kazakhstan clash on Day 2, which will also see Lebanon and Uzbekistan try to find their first wins against Fiji and Sri Lanka respectively.
