FIBA Women's AmeriCup returns to San Juan, Puerto Rico in June 2021

MIAMI (United States) - Puerto Rico has been confirmed as host for the upcoming FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2021. The games will be held in San Juan from 11 to 19 June at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum.

For decades, the iconic site has been home to numerous events that wrote several chapters in Puerto Rican and international sports history. Some of the major Regional Americas events include the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, FIBA Olympics Qualifiers, FIBA AmeriCup Qualifiers, FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, Centrobasket and Pan American Games.

"The AmeriCup is the premier event for women’s basketball in the Americas. Thanks to the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation for hosting ten elite basketball teams in the first step of their quest to qualify for the FIBA  Women's World Cup 2022," said FIBA Americas President Carol Callan. "Time and again, they have provided a quality basketball experience for our teams. We also welcome the ten qualifying teams to the AmeriCup, wish each of them great success and look forward to an exciting tournament."

“We had a fantastic event in the last edition of the AmeriCup 2019 in San Juan and to be able to return to Puerto Rico is an honor for FIBA. We want to express our gratitude to our National Federation in Puerto Rico for hosting this event together with nine other national teams heading to San Juan this summer to celebrate and enable the highest women’s basketball event in the Americas," added the Executive Director of FIBA in the Americas, Carlos Alves.

Ten teams will participate in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2021: Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic and El Salvador are the four teams that qualified from the Centrobasket Women’s Championship 2021. Canada and USA will also be in attendance in San Juan. The top four teams from the South American Women's Championship 2021 to be held in May will also qualify for the FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2021.
