Manuel headlines Angola preliminary squad for #AfroBasketWomen 2019

LUANDA (Angola) - Fresh from inspiring InterClube to the Angolan championship, Nadir Manuel has been named in the 20-player preliminary squad for the upcoming #AfroBasketWomen set to be held in Dakar.

LUANDA (Angola) - Fresh from inspiring Inter Clube to the Angolan championship, Nadir Manuel has been named in the 20-player preliminary squad for the upcoming FIBA Women's AfroBasket set to be held from August 9-18 in Dakar, Senegal.

Manuel, who took off 18 months from basketball for maternity leave including the FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 in Mali, returned to competitive continental events last November in the FIBA Women's Champions Cup with InterClube in Mozambique and will be hoping to make the final 12-player roster.

Her physical presence in the paint and experience over the years is something that Angola will be looking forward to when they head northwest to battle for their first title since 2013.

Since making her debut back in 2009, Manuel has been a shining light in the Black and Red army that has made a good case for themselves at the big stage in Africa.

Another veteran duo in the squad is InterClube's Filipe Ngiendula and Felizarda Jorge who will be eyeing a place in the final team.

Seven young and enterprising players including Elizabeth Mateus, Avelina Peso, Erica Guilherme, Jessica Malagi, Elsa Fabiana, Maura Antonio and Alexia Dizeco will give it a chance for a go to the high table of African women's basketball.

Angola won two back-to-back African titles in 2011 and 2013 but have since come short of glory with victories to Senegal in 2015 and Nigeria two years ago.
