Hairstyles celebrate Africa at FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017

BAMAKO (FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017) – It is true what they say that hair depicts the character of an African woman. It is a tale of different textures but ultimately a celebration of dark hair.

Also a sense of pride and sophistication, hair is taken seriously by many on the African continent and going by the hairstyles at the FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 in the Malian capital, we can prove that this is indeed true.

Senegal's Astou Traore, who has green tint in her hair, told FIBA.basketball: "For me this hairstyle is very special to me because it is a representation of the pride I have to represent Senegal."

"It is for my family and country because we are proud to be Senegalese. I always feel very happy when I see other players with hairstyles that represent Africa."

African hair has different textures and with this comes the unique ways of styling it depending on the occasion, an opportunity to emphasize one's choice.

When it comes to basketball, ladies are careful to make it something close to a fashion contest but while ensuring that it is comfortable when they play on court. This can range from having dreadlocks, braided hair or simply holding it up and letting it free.
