Dorsey clutch as Orthodox Amman ward off ZobAhan, enter Play-Offs on high

AMMAN (Jordan) - Darrin Dorsey came through in desperate times to save Orthodox Amman from the jaws of defeat against ZobAhan, 86-82, to wrap up the WASL-West Asia Group Phase triumphantly, Thursday night at the Prinze Hamza Sport Hall.

The veteran guard fired 33 points, none bigger than his triple with 1:04 left to play as it doused cold water to the fiery rally that saw the visitors knock to within just four, 83-79, after being down by as much as 22 points in the third quarter.

Thanks to him, the Jordanian side tallied their first official win (1-3) that's indeed a huge morale-booster heading into the Final Phase next week.

Game heroes: Dorsey's big game was bound to happen as early as the first period, turning in easily one of the best single-quarter scoring performances in WASL as he dropped 18 on 8-of-8 field goal shooting to help his crew jump to a 31-20 lead.

He eventually finished with a 12-of-17 clip from the field that included 4 triples, together with 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and 1 steal in nearly 39 minutes.

But the others stepped up, too, with Ahmad Alhamarsheh supplying 22 points as he missed just once in the 10 shots he took.

Brandon Peterson produced 15 points and 11 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double performance of the season.

STEP AHEAD Player of the Game: Going a perfect 7-for-7 from inside the arc, Alhamarsheh bagged home STEP AHEAD Player of the Game honors as he received 25-percent of the fans' votes in the online poll.

Turning point: Orthodox Amman were comfortably sitting on an 11-point cushion with under three minutes remaining in the game until Mohammad Hassanzadeh started a 7-0 to cut the gap to just 79-83 with 1:25 left that alarmed the hosts.

Stats don't lie: Both sides shot 53-percent from the floor but the home team had a slight edge on points in the paint, 50-48, and capitalized better on second chances by scoring 12 off it.
