WASL Final 8 2023: Group B Preview

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - All the attention is on Kuwait Club, but serious threats linger as the undefeated team is pooled in a dangerous Group B for the WASL Final 8 Group Phase.

Kuwaiti Premier League champions anew, the crew is looking to remain unscathed all throughout the league's pinnacle event after going 10-0 overall on the way to becoming the inaugural WASL-Gulf champions a few weeks ago.

However, three other teams are looking to end that streak fast, for all of them are coming into the Final 8 with renewed morale after ruling their domestic leagues.

Fresh off a 'four-peat' in the UAE National Basketball League, Shabab Al Ahli-Dubai will be opening the Final 8 festivities on 9 June by welcoming Kazakhstan champions BC Astana at 19:00 local time at the Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Sports Hall.

It would then be followed by Kuwait Club's meeting with Shahrdary Gorgan at 21:45 in what's widely viewed as one of the former's early tests in the tilt.

After facing the reigning three-time Iranian Super League champions, Kuwait Club will next face Shabab Al Ahli on 11 June at 18:45 in a rematch of the WASL-Gulf Semis, with the latter out for payback after being swept in their best-of-3 duel.

That game serves as the main event of the day's double-header offering, which will begin with Gorgan battling Astana at 16:00 in another clash of champions.

Group B action will conclude on June 13. Astana and Kuwait Club will lock horns at 19:00, as Shabab Al-Ahli and Gorgan cap the night off at 21:45.

The top two teams of each group will qualify for the knockout crossover Semi-Finals, as the third and fourth-place teams by the end of the Group Phase will be eliminated.
