USA and Canada to play for the FIBA U16 Women's Americas 2019 Gold Medal

AYSÉN (Chile) - USA and Canada earned the right to play at the FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship 2019 Final after winning their respective Semi-Final games in Aysen, Chile.

USA maintained the overwhelming pace and outscored the Puerto Ricans 103-30.

It took the USA five minutes to settle into the game, and with the physical and technical quality they went on to dominate every category of the stats.

At the end of the first half, the USA had a 41-20 advantage but found another gear to dominate the second half 62-10.

The center Lauren Betts led the offense with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Janiah Baker added 15 with 13 rebounds and Saylor Poffenbarger had 14 points with four three-pointers.

Canada defeated a mighty Chile, 50-38, and earned the right to play for the gold medal.

Chile’s zone defense complicated the team from the Great North to a 21 percent shooting from the field, but Canada’s 30 offensive rebounds gave the team oxygen.

A three-pointer from Rosalie Mercille gave the Canadians a definite 48-38 advantage, with 1:09 remaining.

Isaline Alexander was the figure with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and five steals, while Mercille added 11 points. For Chile, Fernanda Ovalle left a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds.
