Aysen to host the FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship

SAN JUAN (FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship) – The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in the Americas confirmed the Chilean city of Aysen as host city of the FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship 2019.

The continental championship will be played June 16-22 and will feature the participation of Brazil, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, USA and three teams from Central America and the Caribbean to be confirmed at a later date.

"The FIBA U16 Women’s AmericasChampionship 2019 is for many of our young future stars their first opportunity to wear the colors of their national team at the continental level. Aysen and Chile already demonstrated their great organizational skills at the South American U15 Women’s Championship 2018 and have a very good approach in providing young people with a quality experience. We are confident it will be an exciting new chapter for youth basketball in the Americas." Said FIBA Americas President Mr. Usie Richards.

"For FEBACHILE is without a doubt a tremendous pride that FIBA has chosen Aysen and Chile as the hosts of the FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship 2019. We will once again take a tier one Continental Event to a city that for years has not hosted this type of continental event. We will have the opportunity to watch the best teams of the Americas competing for the continental title and four tickets to the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2020. Now, we will work with the Mayor of Aysen and its Regional Authorities so that the FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship is a resounding success. We have complete confidence in the Organizational Capacity of the People of Aysen and that gives us a huge advantage," said the President of FEBACHILE Mr.Iran Arcos.

The top four teams from the FIBA U16 Women’s Americas Championship 2019 will qualify to the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2020.
