Clear goals set for the Dominican Republic at the U16 Americas Championship

SANTO DOMINGO (Dominican Republic) – With FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2019 objectives already set, the Dominican Republic will begin its final preparation camp on May 20 with 21 players vying for a spot in the final roster.

“We began preparations for the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2019 in February, and we have not stopped. We currently have 21 players that will be present in the last preparation camp in the Dominican Republic that will run from May 20-27. The final roster will be decided during the camp. The team will travel to Belem on May 28, where we will play to friendly games against Brazil before the continental championship,” said Jose Maita Mercedes, General Manager of the Junior National Teams for the Dominican Republic National Federation.

“We want to be at the championship podium and to qualify for the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup for the third time in a row,” added Mercedes.

The Dominican Republic was selected to Group A and will start the continental championship against Mexico. The Dominicans will then face Argentina and USA to finish the Group Phase.

The top four teams from the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2019 will qualify to the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2020.
