Belem, Brazil to host the FIBA U16 Americas Championship

SAN JUAN (Puerto Rico) – The International Basketball Federation in the Americas announced today that the Brazilian city of Belem will host the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2019.

The continental championship will be played at the Arena Guilherme Paraense from June 3-9 and will feature the participation of the National Teams of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and the USA.

“The FIBA U16 Americas Championship is one of the most thrilling basketball events of our region as it puts a spotlight on the future stars of our sport and serves as an important international platform in their development process. We are more than confident that Belem and the CBB will host a great and memorable event for the participants as well as for basketball fans everywhere.”, said FIBA Americas President Mr. Usie Richards.

"I am very happy with the confirmation of Belém (PA) as host city of the FIBA U16 Americas Championship 2019, an important event because it’s a qualifier for the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup. This continental event will help develop the sport in the region, which will have the opportunity to closely accompany a championship with the great powers of the continent for the first time in its history," said Guy Peixoto Jr, President of the Brazilian Confederation of Basketball (CBB).

The top four teams of the FIBA U16 Americas Championship will qualify to the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2020.
