South American Sub-Zone elects new leadership

Rio de Janeiro (BRAZIL) - The XXXIII electoral assembly of the South American Basketball Confederation (CSB) took place this past Friday, January 13th, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the nine National Federations (NFs) members of FIBA in South America were present.

The assembly was held in person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic.

 The President of the Uruguayan Basketball Federation (FUBB), Mr. Ricardo Vairo, was unanimously elected as the new CSB president for the 2023-2027 term. Mr. Marcelo Sousa, Executive Director of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation will serve as first Vice-President, while Mr. Iran Arcos, Chile Basketball Federation's President will be the Secretary and Bolivia Basketball Federation's President, Mr. Juan Luis Coronado, will serve as Treasurer.



The assembly was attended by FIBA authorities such as FIBA President Mr. Hamane Niang, FIBA Secretary General Mr. Andreas Zagklis, FIBA President Americas Mrs. Carol Callan, FIBA Honorary President Mr. Horacio Muratore and the Executive Director of FIBA in the Americas Mr. Carlos Alves.

The electoral assembly for FIBA in the Americas will be held in Miami, USA, from May 12-13, 2023.
