Schedules confirmed for Asia-Oceania Pre-Qualifiers of the 2020 Olympic Qualifying Tournaments

BEIRUT (Lebanon) - The competition schedule for both FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments for Asia-Oceania have been confirmed.

Group A, which consists of New Zealand, Korea, Philippines, and China, will be playing at The Trust Arena in Auckland, New Zealand. The teams in Group B which are Japan, Australia, Chinese Taipei, and India will be playing at MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Each tournament will be starting at 17:00 in their respective local times with Korea vs China in Auckland and Australia vs Chinese Taipei in Kuala Lumpur. All teams will get a one-day rest before resuming action in the final two days.

The marquee match-up of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments for Asia-Oceania will be at MABA Stadium on November 17 in a rematch of the Women’s Asia Cup 2017 Final between Australia and Japan.

Four teams from the Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments for Asia-Oceania will qualify to the Olympics Qualifying Tournaments next year. Those teams include Japan as the hosts of the 2020 Olympics, the top two teams in the standings of Group A, and the top team from Group B excluding Japan.

This is the start of an exciting new women's competition system for FIBA, with more than 100 teams taking part in the new system, that will also include a new qualification system for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 and also the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2021.
