Polynesian Cup roundup: Host Samoa bounce back

(Men's) Samoa defeats the Cook Islands, 97-70

Host Samoa overpowered the undermanned Cook Islands, 97-70 to register their first win in the Polynesian Cup.

Sapeti Tufuga poured in 32 points and made four three-pointers while Theodore McFarland and Devante Keil chipped in 21 and 13 points respectively.

Samoa played in complete contrast to their loss against Tahiti with their outside shooting on point (38 percent and nine triples) and controlled the rebound battle, 48-35.

Brandon Heath provided a sterling effort with 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists in COK's loss.

(Women's) The Cook Islands defeats Tahiti, 53-35

SAMOA (Polynesia Cup 2018) - The Cook Islands Women's team continues their impressive play with a massive 53-35 victory over Tahiti.

Led by the Lewis sisters Keziah-Brittany (15 points) and Adoniah (13 points), COK notched their second win in as many games.

The ladies in green controlled the boards 55-40 to set the pace, showing their discipline in dominating the rebounding battle in their second straight game.

Oceane Lefranc top-billed for Tahiti with a double-double performance (12 points, 10 rebounds). Tahiti now sports a 1-1 card.

(Men's) American Samoa defeats Tonga, 71-70

American Samoa escaped with a narrow 71-70 victory over Tonga to improve their record to 2-0.

Lyle Siu split his free throws at the 9.2-second mark to give ASA the go-ahead point.

Lopeti Piutau had the chance to win the game for Tonga but missed a long jumper at the buzzer.

Onosaiimeatiga Tovale led the charge for ASA with 23 points while shooting an efficient 11/15 from the field. Siu and Jeremiah Tuimaseve added 17 and 16 points each.

Tonga had only six players in uniform, was led by Obadaiah Paea with 23 points. Marcus Alipate and Siale Bain-Vete added 22 and 15 points respectively.

(Women's) Samoa defeats American Samoa, 89-35

Samoa bounced back from their opening day loss with a masterful 89-35 win over American Samoa.

Cherish Manumaluega paced the host nation with 21 markers while Fialauia Hunt and Theresa Vaaelua added 16 and 10 points.

Samoa led by as many as 58 points in the fourth quarter as they shot a blistering 58 percent from the field.
