Canada vs. Cuba (FIBA Americas Championship 2007 for Women)
27/09/2007CUB/CAN – Cuba 75 – Canada 52

VALDIVIA (FIBA Americas Championship for Women) - After falling in a close game against USA, the Cubans faced Canada, their direct rival in Group B, and they were as determined as in their debut. Since the start of the game they imposed the rhythm, finally securing the win, which in turn secured their classification for the next round.

In the first two quarters, the islanders made it clear that they mean business in Valdivia, winning the first quarter, 39-14.

The advantage the Cubans had, prompted the Canadians to react and close the lead, although they never shook the team coached by Alberto Zabala. Captain Yayma Boulet and Oyanaisy Gelis led them for a final of 75-52.

This win leaves Cuba with one step in the semifinals, considering that they take on Jamaica tomorrow at 13:30 local time, their weakest rival and Canada takes on the US later on.
