USA vs. Cuba (First day of action of the FIBA Americas Championship 2007 for Women)
26/09/2007USA/CUB - USA 85 – Cuba 79

VALDIVIA (FIBA Americas Championship for Women) – In a first-class quality game, wherein the players fought from the beginning to the end, USA defeated Cuba, 85-79.

The Cubans were so close to accomplish what would have been a great upset, but fell short on the last five minutes, when they couldn’t match the power and intensity of Team USA.

Surprisingly, Cuba was in front for a moment in the game, clearly establishing the type of competition which may be expected in Group B. The first half finished, 34-33, with the Islanders in front, with great performance from Oyanaisy Gelis. The Cubans were constantly supported by the fans present at the Antonio Azuermendy Arena.

However, with only five minutes left in the game, USA came from behind, and with the help of Sue Bird, finally established their game taking with them the victory.
