Joey Stiebing graduated from Louisiana State University in 1985. He didn't play basketball in college but learned a lot about coaching by working with long-time coach Dale Brown.

After coaching five years in high school, Stiebing served as an assistant for seven years, under well-known coaches Tic Price and Tim Floyd before being named head coach at the University of New Orleans in 1997.

In four years there, he established a 57-58 record and was even selected Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year … just two weeks before being fired in 2001.

Stiebing was working for a financial services company when he was asked to become the Qatari National Team head coach in January 2003.

After three years as coach, he has provided some discipline and the intensive defence that made him successful at the college level.
