The Nolan Richardson experience was short lived for Panama as the former Arkansas coach only lasted a few months.

Guillermo Vecchio came in, thrilled to coach a team at the 2006 FIBA World Championship.

Vecchio is not advertising himself as a savior, saying that a reasonable goal should be to finish tenth in Japan.

But that doesn't mean he's not ambitious.

"When I was hired as coach of Argentina, the team was around 50th or 60 in the FIBA rankings. And we jumped to the top. Right now, Panama is 35 and we can raise up the rankings", said the man who coached Argentina at the 1996 Olympics.
