At 59, Coach K - as he's been called for years at the Duke campus in Durham - is already a Hall of Famer.

A three-time NCAA champion with Duke (1991, 1992, 2000), he's built the Duke program basically from scratch and turned it into a perennial powerhouse.

Nobody has sent more players to the NBA or had more players being named NCAA Player of the Year (8) over the past two decades.

That doesn't mean that Krzyzewski had a nice and smooth ride to where he stands today. In 1991, he was on the verge of getting the reputation of being a great coach who can't win it all.

Then, he managed to beat defending champions UNLV with a coaching performance for the ages to win his first national championship.

In 1994, he went through back injury and missed part of the season. With the program in jeopardy, Krzyzewski came back and rebuilt again, winning another title in 2000.

Being chosen as Team U.S.A. coach over several NBA colleagues, Coach K is expected to bring the kind of basketball philosophy that the 2002 and 2004 U.S.A. teams seemed to miss.
