Cambage powers Australia past Puerto Rico for convincing win

BOURGES (France) - Australia claimed their first win at the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Bourges with a 100-74 win against Puerto Rico behind a dominant display from Liz Cambage.

The Opals star helped inspire the victory with Puerto Rico unable to repeat their Day 1 upset of Brazil. Both teams will be in control of their own fate going into Sunday.

Turning Point
: Australia led from start to finish as they set the tone with an 11-2 opening. The gap continued to grow, peaking at 27 points in a convincing performance.

Game Hero: Liz Cambage starred with 31 points in 23 minutes of action and was able to rest ahead of a big showdown with Brazil tomorrow. Australia also had scoring support as Cayla George started on fire in an 11-point cameo, while 20-year-old Ezi Magbegor added 15 points.

Stats Don't Lie: Australia dominated inside with their front-court firepower too much for their opponents as they outscored Puerto Rico 50-22 in points in the paint.

Bottom Line: Australia got the win they needed in emphatic fashion as they proved too much for Puerto Rico. The Opals take on Brazil in their final game with Puerto Rico going up against the hosts France with an Olympic ticket possibly already secured before taking to the floor tomorrow evening.
