Fernando, Dundao headline Angola's OQT list

LUANDA (Angola) - The core of the Angola team that won the U18 African title eight years ago in Rwanda has been named in the country's squad for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Valencia.
Childe Dundao, Milton Valente, Jonatao Ndjungu, Bruno Fernando and Silvio de Sousa were in the Angola team that reached the top of the podium at the FIBA U18 African Championship 2016 in Kigali and now have a chance to play together for the first time since that achievement.

Fernando, the first Angolan to play in the NBA, and Dundao, the MVP of the 2024 Angolan League Finals last week, headline the 11-time AfroBasket champions' 24-man preliminary squad, announced by the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB).
In addition to Fernando and Dundao, the list also includes some of the country's emerging talents like Selton Miguel and Gilson Bango.
Head coach Josep Claros missed Angola's three first games of the FIBA AfroBasket 2025 Qualifiers two months ago in Tunisia but is expected to return for the Valencia OQT, which is being held from July 2 to July 7.
Angola, who will play in Group A against Spain and Lebanon, are making their fourth straight OQT appearance, dating back to 2012.
Angola last featured at the Olympics16 years ago in Beijing.
