Parker set to take center stage in Paris friendly

PARIS (2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments) - Tony Parker is going to end his glorious career with France's national team this summer and hopes to do so in Rio de Janeiro.

The French must win the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Manila (5-10 July) to take part in the Brazil Games.

As part of their preparations for the OQT, France will square off in a couple of warm-up games this month against European heavyweights Serbia, the first of which will be at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris on 21 June.

Parker, the hugely successful, long-time point guard of the San Antonio Spurs, will be the star attraction. He became the EuroBasket's all-time leading scorer last summer in the Group Phase and in his last game of the tournament, the battle for third place, Parker poured in 13 points as France defeated Serbia, 81-68.

The two countries have had some memorable games, including in 2014 when Parker wasn't involved. France overcame the Serbians in the Group Phase of the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Granada while Serbia prevailed in the more important clash, the Semi-Final in Madrid.

Parker, who turned 34 last month, will be hoping to lead France into a second straight Olympics. The French will take on the Philippines and New Zealand in Group B of the Manila OQT. Turkey, Senegal and Canada will play in Group A, with only the winner of the OQT advancing to the Olympics.

Serbia will stage one of the other OQTs in Belgrade and will play against Angola and Puerto Rico in Group A, with the Czech Republic, Japan and Latvia in Group B.

Though the upcoming game in Paris between France and Serbia is a warm-up, the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) is placing extra significance on the event, announcing in a promotion that the contest is an "opportunity to see Tony Parker play one of his last games in the blue jersey in France".
