USA veteran Bird day-to-day with knee injury

RIO DE JANEIRO (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - USA point guard Sue Bird on Wednesday had an MRI which determined that the four-time Olympian is to remain under medical care after injuring her right knee in Tuesday's Quarter-Final win against Japan.

According to the USA Basketball, the MRI "showed a knee capsule sprain" and as result, the 35-year-old point guard "is listed as day-to-day".

Minutes after the game that saw the Americans advance to the Semi-Finals for the ninth time in a row, Bird couldn't really explain how the injury occurred. She was understandably relieved after hearing of the MRI's findings.

"Obviously, I felt a huge relief," she said. "The hardest part is waiting and not knowing. So, to finally get the thumbs-up from the doc that everything was okay was incredibly relieving and exciting, and obviously, I'm very happy."

The reigning Olympic champions will take on France in one of the two Semi-Finals on Thursday.
