Serbia win warm-up series over Turkey, coach Maljkovic says they can do better

BELGRADE (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - Serbia closed out a two-game warm-up series against Turkey with yet another win on Saturday.

Gearing up for their Olympics debut next month in Rio de Janeiro, the reigning European champions have proven too much for fellow Rio-bound Turkey.

Turkey stepped on court looking to bounce back from Friday's 60-53, but Serbia's Sasa Cado's came up with a team-best 13 points that proved key in the 61-51 triumph.

Turkey's duo Lara Sanders and Isil Alben finished with team-highs 13 points apiece, but that wasn't good enough to avoid their second defeat to Serbia in two days.

In the process, Jelena Milovanovic and Danielle Page completed Cado's effort with nine points apiece.

I am sure we'll be better prepared for the Olympics, and we'll be ready to face Spain in the opener." - Maljkovic

With just two weeks away from the start of the Rio Olympics, Turkey's performances will have to be substantially better than what they showed in Belgrade.

Turkey secured one of the five tickets for the Rio Olympics thanks to a successful run at last month's Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament, but things start to looking quite worrying for the Turks.

The two defeats to Serbia come just a few days after Turkey lost two of their friendly games against France

Meanwhile, Serbia's head coach Marina Maljkovic feels her team still has some room for improvement.

"I am pleased with the way we played these two games, but there is a lot of work to be done. We have one more week of practice in Belgrade. Then, we'll play two warm-up games in Rio [against Brazil and Australia]. I am sure we'll be better prepared for the Olympics, and we'll be ready to face Spain in the opener [7 August]."

As well as Spain, Serbia will take on Canada, the USA, Senegal, China in Group B.
