Mondelo finalises Spain's roster for Rio Olympics

MADRID (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - Spain's head coach Lucas Mondelo was so pleased with his team's success at last month's FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT) in Nantes, France, that he is taking exactly the same 12 players to the Rio Olympics, the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) confirmed on Friday.

Led by Sancho Lyttle and Alba Torrens, Spain were dominant in Nantes, securing one of the five tickets on offer for the Rio Games thanks to wins over Venezuela, China, and Korea.

Although most of the 12 players are set to become first-time Olympians, that is not to say they are short on international experience.

Four players - including Torrens, Laura Nicholls, Lucila Pascua and Laia Palau - featured at the Beijing Olympics eight years ago, and also have multiple EuroBasket Women appearances to their names.

Next month's Games will mark the return of Spain to the Olympics after they failed to qualify for London 2012. The Spaniards head to Rio looking to go as far as possible in the competition.

They have been drawn in Group B alongside Canada, the USA, Senegal, Serbia, and China
