Bittersweet for Meesseman who takes the Quarter-Finals Top Performer crown

TOKYO (Japan) - It's a game at the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament that Emma Meesseman might try to forget, even if she did post another spectacular individual performance for Belgium.

Regretably for the Cats, they were pipped 86-85 by Japan in an astonishing game of basketball that has already been labelled as one of the best in Olympic history. The forward did everything she could to get her team over the line and make history with a first ever Semi-Finals appearance, but that honor went to Japan - despite Meeesseman finishing with 25 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks.

Her Belgium teammate Kim Mestdagh was similarly heartbroken afterwards, having had one of her best, if not the best ever game in a national team vest. She walked off the floor wondering how the opportunity of a last four place had slipped away, contributing 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

In the same game. Rui Machida passed an astonishing milestone as she moved passed 50 assists in the competiton by passing the rock 14 times. The guard also came up with a double-double by scoring 10 points.

USA did move to the Semi-Finals and they had Breanna Stewart hitting top gear as they crushed Australia 79-55 in an awesome display of intent. 'Stewie' was on fire and netted 23 points, barely missing a shot as she went 8 of 10 from the floor. She also added 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.

Finally, there was a lot of hard work for Serbia to do as they made the Semi-Finals for a second time in their second Olympics. It was their leader Sonja Vasic that propelled them there as she completed a double-double of 16 points and 10 boards in a 77-70 victory.
