Samoa, Tahiti completes Semi-Finals cast in Men's action

Paita (New Caledonia) - Samoa had an impressive performance over home team New Caledonia, 120-50, to advance to the Semi-Finals of the 2019 FIBA U17 Oceania Championship at the L'Arene de Sud in Noumea, New Caledonia.
 
Five players scored in twin digits for Samoa led by Hinckley Scanlan with 20 points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
 
Jordan Brunt (19 points), Jawon Fesolai (18) and Dehryse Matuatia (15) also added key support as Samoa progressed to the Final Four to face off against New Zealand for a seat in the Finals of the Oceania tilt among U17 cagers.
 
Defending champion Australia, on the other hand, takes on Tahiti in the other Semis match-up.
 
Only Brian Taputu scored in double figures for New Caledonia with 11 markers.
 
The host nation plays Guam in the battle for fifth place.

Tahiti beats Guam, 71-55

Tahiti set up a gigantic Semi-Finals date with Australia after overcoming Guam, 71-55, in the Quarterfinals of the 2019 FIBA U17 Oceania Championship men's basketball tournament.

FIBA Polynesia Cup MVP Arii Meuel, the undeterred Tahiti just would not be denied a Final Four slot as it leaned on a hot 35-22 halftime start.

That separation proved to be enough as Tahiti went on to protect its lead on the way to its fourth straight win in as many games.

Tahiti now tries to continue its unbeaten run against likewise unbeaten team, Australia with no less than a Finals seat on the line.

Harevaa Hatitio paced the wards of Meuel with 14 markers and 20 rebounds.

Backstopping him were Liam Fareata, Maui Roopina and Nelson Arapa with 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Guam, on the other, continued its hunt for its first win as it slid to its fourth straight loss despite the 23 markers of Elijah Joaquin Cruz.

Guam faces either host New Caledonia or Samoa in the battle for fifth.

Papua New Guinea beats the Cook Islands, 65-62

Papua New Guinea secured the 7th-place finish after surviving the Cook Islands, 65-62, in the Classification Phase of the 2019 FIBA U17 Oceania Championship men's division.
 
Jimmy Struik starred for PNG after nailing the game's last three points including the insurance free throws in the last 24 seconds to lift his squad into a thrilling escape act from the Cook Islands.
 
Struik finished with 24 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals while Morea Elavo and Harold Elavo contributed 12 and 10 markers, respectively.
 
Meanwhile, for the Cook Islands' side, John Tyrone Woonton had 15 points in a losing cause en route to an 8th place finish.
 
Orlando Lima and Lewis Tuaru also added 12 points apiece for Cook Island which just could not sustain its huge 11-point lead.
