Basketball New Zealand announce coaching staff for FIBA U15 Oceania Championship

Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) appointed the coaching staff for their U15 Boys and Girls teams for the FIBA U15 Oceania Championship which will be held in Port Morseby, Papua New Guinea on December 4-8.

BNZL High-Performance Director Leonard King expressed anticipation of a competitive team with basketball.org.nz

"We are excited to get this group into camp and see which players are prepared to put their hand up to represent New Zealand at the Oceania Championships,” he said.

The boys' teams will be spearheaded by Head Coach Morgan Maskell alongside assistant coaches Darron Larsen, Brent Matehaere and team manager Paulette Leef.

Maskell is currently an assistant coach of the Hawkes Bay Hawks in the New Zealand Basketball League.

The girls' team will be led by Natalie Visger and will be supported by assistant coaches Justine Reed and Kaea Samson.

Reed is also NZ's U18 Women's 3x3, Harbour Under 17A Girls head coach.

"It's a welcome development for us that New Zealand and even Australia have already announced their coaching staff. The U15 format will debut this year and the region will be the trailblazer for this age group," FIBA Oceania Competitions Manager, Amanda Jenkins said.

"And it is always important to develop basketball from a grassroots program and discover potential senior team players from their youth programs," she added.
