Youth and women’s projects given the green light by FIBA Europe Board

PRAGUE - The Board of FIBA Europe, which convened in the Czech capital Prague on Saturday, was updated on a number of issues, especially regarding development projects.

Specifically, the Board voted to accept a proposal of the Management Committee to retain an annual budget of €4 million for the Youth Development Fund for the years 2018 and 2019.

The exact requirements for the National Federation projects will be decided by the Management Group by the end of July this year.

It also agreed that the Youth Performance Fee is to be replaced by a Special Promotion Fund of €300,000; subject to Board approval.

The Board also discussed a proposal for a special campaign to actively promote women's basketball among young girls.

It approved the creation of a working group which will finalize a concrete concept and details of the campaign and bring them for approval at the next Board meeting in September.

The Board was also updated on the recent decision by the International Olympic Committee to include the discipline of 3x3 basketball in the Tokyo Olympics 2020, which is hailed as a significant decision for the further development of basketball worldwide.
