Vernissage of the Photo Contest of the first House of Basketball Biennale

MIES - To fulfil its cultural and sporting ambitions, FIBA's Foundation (IBF) - whose role is to preserve and promote basketball's values and cultural heritage - has created the first-ever House of Basketball Biennale and dedicated it to photography, organizing a photo contest.

Over 800 photos responding to the ‘Social’, ‘Humanitarian’ and ‘Educational’ themes were received. After a lot of deliberations, the 30 best photos were chosen to be part of a temporary exposition at the House of Basketball.

The vernissage of the exposition was held this evening. Florian Wanninger, director of the Foundation welcomed the guests and explained the concept of the contest "the photos do not represent the glamorous world of professional or high level basketball, but rather are a reflection of real life and grassroots basketball, they tell a story”. He added, "this represents the mission of our foundation very well. Our focus is not elite basketball, but using basketball to make an impact in the lives of youngsters who need our help the most".

One of the guests present stated "I love how we can tell that the photos come from all parts of the world. From kids playing without shoes on a dirt court to a child playing around with players on a tablet we can really see that basketball can have an impact everywhere and on everybody".

Visitors of the House of Basketball can enjoy the exposition until the 30th of October 2017.
