USA, Turkey win again in U19 World warm-up

HERAKLION (2015 U19 World Championship) - Title contenders United States and Turkey both continued their preparations for the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship with a second victory within two days.

The reigning champions USA beat Argentina 86-75 in their second warm-up ahead the tournament in Greece. Harry Giles led the way with 14 points while Justin Bibbs and Terrance Ferguson scored 12 points each and Jayson Tatum added 10 points. 

"I felt like this game helped show where we are as a team, helps us get prepared and get us better as a team. It’s not all about the win or losses, it’s about getting us better," said Giles.

Chinanu Onuaku chipped in nine points, 12 rebounds and three blocks including five points and six rebounds in the decisive 20-2 USA run spanning the first and second quarters. The Americans increased the lead to 18 points in the second quarter while Argentina were able to trim the deficit to seven points in the third quarter. 

Pablo Gramajo led Argentina with 14 points while Lucio Delfino and Jose Vildoza both added 13 points and Rodrigo Gerhardt had 12 points and five assists.

The 2014 U18 European champions Turkey meanwhile collected another victory with their full group of players, beating Tunisia 81-57 in Istanbul. 

The Turks, who have only had their trio of leaders Egemen Guven, Okben Ulubay and Furkan Korkmaz for three days, dished out 30 assists for the second straight game as they prepare for the U19 Worlds. 

Korkmaz scored 17 points while Ulubay collected 11 points, nine assists, seven steals, four rebounds and five turnovers and Tolga Gecim had four points and eight assists. 

Tunisia received 13 points from Mahmoud Hajri and Soufiane Guebellaoui picked up 11 points, 12 rebounds and three steals in the losing effort.
