Unified Korea seal victory in historic Asian Games 2018 debut along with China, Chinese Taipei, and Japan

JAKARTA (Asian Games 2018) – The Women’s Basketball in the 18th Asian Games 2018 commenced today with a series of blowouts by China, Chinese Taipei, Japan, and Unified Korea.

China wasted no time against Thailand, starting the game with a 30-7 first quarter before running away with a 110-42 win. China has a whopping 9 blocks and held Thailand to only 30% shooting form inside the arc entire game. Post presence Han Xu had a stat-stuffing 11 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assist, and 5 blocks.

Chinese Taipei also claimed a big win over Kazakhstan, 72-42. The East Asian team were just as unforgiving as China, shutting Kazakhstan down to only 9 field goals and 17% two-point fieldgoal shooting and were left to rely on free-throws for points. Pingjen Huang tallied 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and a stunning 7 steals to lead the team.

Japan routed Hong Kong for the biggest win of the day, 121-44. The victors shot a blistering 64.6% from the field and left Hong Kong in dust with a 34-6 third quarter. Youngster Moe Nagata had a game-high 23 points to go with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

The last match of the day was a historic one as the Women’s basketball teams of North Korea and South Korea joined as one team, Unified Korea, to face host nation Indonesia. Korea had no mercy from the hosts and won 108-40. The winners had 6 players in double-digits and 9 players with at least 8 points, led by Ro Suk Yong who had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.
