Tahiti Basketball Federation holds technical officials clinic in Raitea

UTOROA (Tahiti) - Fédération Tahitienne de Basketball organized a referee and table officials clinic at Raitaea, Utoroa from March 9 to 12 to prepare technical officials in the upcoming Raiatea Basketball championship.

The clinic was spearheaded by Tuhiata Mariteragi, a former national team player of Tahiti and also part of the official pool of referees in the 2019 Pacific Games.

"There was a lot of discussion in terms of the regulations in Raitea and we wanted to help provide the necessary knowledge to our officials so they can run their championship in an orderly fashion," shared Mariteragi.

The three-day clinic featured a game on the first day for practice, theory and practical lesson with video review on the second day and another full game officiated to assess their performance.

"The clinic was a success because the participants were very receptive and keen to learn with a lot of questions. They are asking for further training and we are planning to set one up soon again," shared Mariteragi, who coached Tahiti's U17 Women's team in the FIBA U17 Oceania Championship last year.

The clinic featured 10 referees and 10 table officials in the three-day exercise.

"We want to thank the district of Raiatea for organizing a referee training with the cooperation of our Federation and also to the participants involved. We hope to continue to elevate the standard of our technical officials moving forward," ended Mariteragi.
