Stadium lighting expert Panasonic joins FIBA's Equipment & Venue Centre

MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA has announced that Panasonic stadium lighting solution has joined the Equipment & Venue Centre in the Lighting Category.

The stadium lighting experts from Japan provide a number of lighting products, including the FIBA Approved: Ground Beam, Stadium Beam and OWL Beam, that achieve key performance criteria necessary for proper lighting during events and basketball games.

"Stadium lighting is at the forefront of basketball event production as high-quality lighting is essential for players, fans and broadcasting," said Bart Prinssen, Head of FIBA's Equipment & Venue Centre.

"Through our testing program, the approved stadium lighting products must be designed to minimize the glare for players and referees whilst offering the optimum conditions for broadcasting. We are pleased to welcome to the FIBA Family the Panasonic stadium lighting system, a stadium lighting expert with a strong global footprint."

For over 60 years Panasonic has continued to advance lighting in terms of technology, quality and design methods for spaces. The company enjoys a proven track record of supplying a wide range of LED lighting solutions for commercial, office, industrial, public spaces and more. Panasonic also has a long history in sports by providing lighting solutions for all types of sporting venues including basketball arenas throughout Japan.

The FIBA Equipment & Venue Centre Partners Summit 2022 is being held in Antwerp, Belgium this week and for the first time Panasonic will join the meeting and showcase their newly approved innovative stadium lighting solutions.

"At Panasonic, we have a passion for sports and excel in providing the ideal lighting conditions for athletes and spectators by utilizing our years of lighting control development. We are pleased that our stadium lighting products are now FIBA approved as this certification highlights our unique sports solutions which cater to the high demands in sports arenas," said Katsufumi Miyamoto, Sports Marketing Division Head at Panasonic Corporation.

FIBA's Equipment & Venue Centre approves lighting products based on four parameters: Illuminance, Flicker Factor, Color Temperature and Color Rendering. All parameters are important for different factors, with illuminance and color rendering key for high-quality broadcast images.

Panasonic will work in accordance with FIBA's lighting requirements - such as horizontal illuminance and vertical illuminance - during the planning stage of stadium installations and use its original lighting calculation software to create lighting designs and meet each venue's unique needs. Panasonic also utilizes Sports VR - combining 3D simulation and optical software theory - to create a comfortable lighting environment for athletes and spectators by verifying any glare through the lighting simulation. This innovative approach allows Panasonic to visualize the lighting in a venue before any installations take place. Sports VR has already been verified at many international stadium sites and is considered a highly accurate and comprehensive simulation tool.
