Singapore set to meet Asia's best

SINGAPORE (2015 FIBA ASIA Championship) - A 14-year absence from the FIBA Asia Championship for Singapore will soon come to an end when the country's national team competes at the event in China.

The tournament is to be staged in Changsha from 23 September-3 October and Singapore are among the 16 teams taking part.

Their opponents in Group C will be Korea, Jordan and China.

Huge underdogs, Singapare will once again be led by coach Neo Beng Siang and he will have the services of several players who helped the team book a spot in the tournament.

Wei Jie Desmond Oh, Wei Long Wong, Qing Huang Toh, Wei Meng Leon Kwek, Han Bin Ng, Hong Da Kelvin Lim, Kok Chiang Delvin Goh and Chin Hong Tan - all members of the squad that clinched third place at the SEABA Championship in May - will be with the team in Changsha.

Despite advancing to the tournament, which serves as a qualifying event for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Singapore did not do so in a blaze of glory.

Hoping to challenge for the SEABA title on home soil, the team lost to Malaysia and eventual champion Philippines and finished behind them in the standings.

Singapore final roster for the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship: Shi Yang Ng, Wei Jie Desmond Oh, Mingrong Jabez Su, Wei Long Wong, Qing Huang Toh, Jing Lun John Ng, Wei Meng Leon Kwek, Shengyu Lim, Han Bin Ng, Hong Da Kelvin Lim, Kok Chiang, Delvin Goh and Chin Hong Tan.
