Rudy flying high again

MADRID (FIBA Basketball World Cup/EuroBasket) - Rudy Fernandez is red hot again.

The high-flying Real Madrid swingman who has a decade of experience under his belt with Spain's national team has been collecting one honor after another in recent times.

After being named last month's Copa del Rey MVP for the third time in his illustrious career, he was also the Turkish Airlines Euroleague MVP for the month of February.

Heading into the business end of Real Madrid's season, Fernandez is in scintillating form.

In his last four Euroleague contests, he had averaged 17.7 points and 1.5 steals per game.

The performances have put Fernandez in a good mood, so much so that he presented his teammates with watches after his Euroleague award.

When Spain travel to the EuroBasket this summer to compete in Berlin against Germany, Serbia, Turkey, Iceland and Italy, Fernandez will be a key on both ends of the floor.

He provided, as always, plenty of highlight reel plays last year for Spain at the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Defensively, Fernandez is proving to be a real pest for opponents in Spain and the Euroleague.

That part of his game will be a big factor the Spanish as they try to reach the Final of the EuroBasket and qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

For now, Fernandez is doing everything in his power to help Real Madrid make it back to the Euroleague Final Four.

He is also doing a very good job in the Liga Endesa, with the Spanish giants among the favorites to capture that title.

If they can win both competitions [Madrid scraped an 81-80 win over Fernandez's former club, Joventut, at the weekend], it would be a very special year because the club already has the Copa del Rey triumph over Barcelona.
