Gold Coast (Australia) - The FIBA Oceania Technical Official Webinar series resumes Wednesday (June 3) with Guy Richards presenting the Referee Module: "Preparing a Pre-Game conference".

Richards, a veteran of several Oceania tournaments including the Pacific Games and the Melanesia Cup will discuss his experience with participants in the region.

"I am excited to present and interact with friends across the region and I am hoping to provide some value and help to referees of all levels about pre-game conferences and how they can help," he shared.

The Australian shared that he has been meticulously preparing for his presentation by gathering information from his colleagues.

"I have been discussing with my peers and listening to their thoughts on the topic. Also been talking to various other people including score table officials and instructors to get a presentation that ensures the general points are widely used," Richards said.

"I have also been researching the various ways pre-games are done at each level for best practices," he added.

Richards intends to discuss his approach in presiding over a pregame referee conference in his presentation.

"I have experienced pre-games at all levels from domestic to international games and its interesting to see the variations from the referee to referee and their preparation to do a great job," he said.

"I plan to show a guide on the way I structure pre-games at each level. Hopefully, it will be really helpful," he added.

Richards who also officiated the recent Grand Final of the Australian WNBL also expressed his excitement in getting feedback from the participants.

"I am looking forward to hearing some great questions on the back of the session and hope people get a lot out of it. I believe every referee has had a lot of experience with pre-game conferences whether they know It or not," he shared.
