Nigeria recognized in 2017 Nike FIBA World Ranking Women

MIES (Nike FIBA World Ranking Women) - Nigeria have emerged as one of the biggest climbers in the latest Nike FIBA World Ranking Women in the wake of their FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2017 success.

Following on from their memorable night in Bamako when they stormed past Senegal to land the coveted silverware, Nigeria have moved up an eye-catching eight places and into 34th place in the rankings.

Meanwhile, despite no change to the top four spots, including the number one ranked USA who are once again followed by Spain, France and Australia, there is a notable shift for Canada - even if it is just once place.

They can celebrate breaking into the top five after overhauling Czech Republic - their position bolstered by their thrilling 67-65 FIBA Women's AmeriCup triumph against hosts Argentina.

Other big winners further down the rankings are also Americas nations, with Virgin Islands climbing 15 rungs on the ladder to 35th which is the biggest of any country, while Paraguay and Columbia climbed an impressive 13 and 12 spots respectively.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Poland, Israel and the Dominican Republic all endured the most significant drops in the rankings.

The overall picture is one which indicates a general stability within the women's game since 14 of the top 20 ranked nations have retained the same spot they occupied after the publication of the 2016 rankings.
