New FIBA PLUS Strategy & Planning Handbook essential tool for National Federations

MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA, as part of its mission to strengthen National Federations, has produced a strategy and planning guide that will provide numerous benefits for all.

The FIBA PLUS Strategy & Planning Handbook, which is available in digital format in English, French and Spanish, provides an end-to-end overview of the planning process for National Federations, the key drivers of basketball development in each country.

Elements in the handbook make it a valuable resource for all National Federations, which have different levels of maturity when it comes to strategy and planning and will help federations to drive results by achieving a sustainable strategic focus.

"Empower National Federations" is one of the three strategic objective priorities for FIBA, as approved by the FIBA Congress in Beijing, China in 2019. One of the six goals under this strategic objective is "Building Professional Leadership" and focuses on developing National Federations' capacity to organize, professionalize and commercialize their basketball activities.

FIBA firmly believes that sustainable strategic focus is essential and therefore, this handbook is a vital tool for National Federations.

The FIBA PLUS Strategy & Planning Handbook is also used as a supporting resource for the FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning Program, a three-month program designed to support National Federations in their journey to create a strategic plan.

To date, nine National Federations have taken part in the project: in Africa, the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA), the Rwandan Amateur Basketball Federation (FERWABA), the Cape Verdean Basketball Federation (FCBB), the Mozambique Basketball Federation (FMB); in Americas, the Bahamas Basketball Federation (BBF), the National Basketball Federation of Trinidad and Tobago (NBFTT); in Asia, the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF); in Europe, the Kosovo Basketball Federation (KBF); and in Oceania, the Guam Basketball Confederation (GBC).

Other National Federations interested in the FIBA PLUS Strategy and Planning Program have been invited to contact FIBA's Headquarters or Regional Offices to obtain first-hand information and access to materials.
