Myanmar's Htun ready to make a difference

The IBF Youth Leadership Seminar in Singapore on June 22 to 24 witnessed a successful gathering of 16 Youth Leaders from 15 different countries. The workshop’s aim was to give the young leaders the tools to run 3x3 Tournaments as well as develop their leadership skills.

SINGAPORE -- Zin Min Htun from Myanmar is a 3-star Captain in the military force of his country but he is also a passionate basketball player that has big dreams for his country.

Thun attended the IBF Youth Leadership Seminar and took the challenge head-on. Despite his limited English knowledge, he did not let it become a detriment in his desire to learn about 3x3 basketball.

"I like basketball because I can express myself and it is also a great outlet for me," shared the 26-year old Htun.

The Myanmar native also admitted that basketball is not a popular sport in his country.

"It is not popular because it is not accessible in Myanmar. I want to help expand, develop and promote basketball across the country," says Htun.

The leadership seminar was a great opportunity for Thun to help introduce 3x3 basketball to the country.

"It is my first time to learn about 3x3 basketball and I learned so much about the technicalities of the sport," shared Htun.

IBF Corporate Social Responsibility Associate Theren Bullock was impressed with Thun's commitment and shared that Myanmar was the second country to organize their tournament.

"Thun had 18 teams in his qualifying tournament, which is amazing. It is a testament to his hard work and I won't fail attitude," said Bullock.

“He was not afraid to ask for help when necessary which was able to aid in the organization of an amazing event.," he added.

Thun took advantage of his experience in Singapore and went to work and organized their tournament on July 21 to 22.

"Tournament is done for us. I tried my best and my Federation is happy with our effort. We had a lot of kids play with 18 teams," says Htun.

"We are excited for the tournament in Bali and hope this can inspire other youth in our country to play basketball," he ended.
