Motiejunas in Lithuania preliminary list for EuroBasket 2015

VILNIUS (EuroBasket 2015) - Donatas Motiejunas, who is currently sidelined through injury, has been included in Lithuania's 25-strong EuroBasket 2015 preliminary squad.

Speaking at a promotional event for a national team sponsor in Vilnius, head coach Jonas Kazlauskas clarified that this does not mean there has been a positive update on the condition of the Houston Rockets forward/center.

Motiejunas was ruled out of the remainder of the NBA season in early April, after missing six games with lower back spasms, and is undergoing rehabilitation.

The Lithuanian medical team will examine the player and determine his situation at a latter stage, but coach Kazlauskas felt that all candidates for a place in his final squad should be on the list, regardless of their current circumstances.

This list is extended and includes players who have not explicitly said what their plans for the summer are. - Kazlauskas

"The club season is not over yet, anything can happen, so we do not want to rush the players.

"In short, this list names the players whom us as coaches are interested in, that we see as potential members of the team.

"These are the players that we want to invite to training camp and once the club season is over we will be able to know everybody's chances more accurately."

Lithuania's preliminary squad for the upcoming EuroBasket features seven new names, when compared to the list of players who reported at training camp last summer, ahead of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The new arrivals consist of veteran guard Mindaugas Girdziunas who shined with Neptunas in this season's Turkish Airlines Euroleague, Rokas Giedraitis, who had a stand-out season with EuroChallenge participants BC Siauliai, Gediminas Orelikas of Lietuvos Rytas and Zalgiris Kaunas youngsters Arturas Gudaitis, Lukas Lekavicius, Arturas Milaknis and Edgaras Ulanovas.

Veteran star Linas Kleiza is also featuring, despite the fact that he had pulled out of the World Cup squad last year and it was widely believed that his brilliant showing at EuroBasket 2013 would be his last appearance in a green and yellow shirt.

Kazlauskas's men will gather on 20 July in Palanga for the start of training camp and are to play their first warm up game on 29 July, against Australia in Klaipeda.

The Baltic nation were drawn in Group D at EuroBasket 2015 and will do battle with Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Ukraine and hosts Latvia.
