Mo Bro Koponen to grow moustache in 'Movember'

HELSINKI - The Finnish national team's brightest star at the FIBA Basketball World Cup, Petteri Koponen, will have a different look once again for the month of November.

For the second straight year, the dazzling point guard will grow a moustache to support the Movember campaign, a global movement aimed at changing the face of men's health.

The Movember Foundation challenges men to grow moustaches during Movember (November) to spark conversation and raise funds for its men's health programs.

"I've always thought that I want to be involved in good things," Koponen said on the Finnish Basketball website.

"Movember is just such, and the moustache is a small increase in discomfort."

To take action, men sign up on one of the Movember websites and then shave down their face on the first of November before growing a moustache for the month.

They grow and groom their new 'Mo' (slang for moustache), asking friends and family to donate to their efforts.

The idea is that Mo Bros, with their new moustaches, spark conversations around the often ignored issue of men's health and seek to raise funds to support the work of the Movember Foundation.

Since it was launched in 2003, Movember has raised $559 million USD and also funded more than 800 men's health projects.

Last year, the Movember campaign in Finland collected €404,000.

According to the Movember Foundation, four million moustaches have been grown worldwide since the beginning of Movember 11 years ago.
