Malaysia coach pleased with progress following a stuttering start

MEDAN (2015 FIBA Asia U16 Women’s Championship) – Following her team’s exciting and thrilling overtime win over KazakhstanMalaysia coach, Fong Ben Goh, admitted that she’s satisfied with how the team improved during the tournament.

Malaysia suffered a blow out defeat to Hong Kong on the opening day, but vastly improved after that, winning two out of their three games.

“I’m really pleased with how the players bounced back from the opening day defeat, it’s not easy to recover from a huge defeat,” she said.

“We improved simply because they started responding to my calls, I instructed them to play more as a team and that’s what happened.”

The 33-year-old also revealed that preparations for the tournament were minimal because she has been at the helm for just three months.

“I’ve been with them for just three months. It’s important to have the greatest possible amount of preparation, to get chemistry and strength as a team, unfortunately I had no time to prepare them,” she added.

Malaysia will be looking to end the tournament on a high note when they square off against Singapore in their last preliminary round game tomorrow.
