Lonergan to discuss ''Teaching'' Youth Basketball

Gold Coast (Australia) - The FIBA Oceania Youth Coaching Webinar will resume with Peter Lonergan to discuss the effective ways of "Teaching" at the grassroots level.

Lonergan who serves as the Director of High-Performance Coach Development for Basketball Australia is keen to discuss the importance of the coaches in developing basketball.

"Coaching is teaching, teaching is coaching," Lonergan said. It’s important for all coaches to understand their responsibility to teach the game."

Lonergan mentioned that he will be discussing innovative concepts in the development of youth players in his webinar session.

"I am going to talk about the latest concepts in the “Games Approach” to player development and how they can be integrated at all levels of the sport," he said.

Lonergan has been a fixture in the development of youth basketball in the Oceania region with his participation in the Elite Development Camps held in Guam and New Caledonia in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

The Australian shared that the important aspect of these webinars is the sharing of concepts and relationships built with the participants and presenters.

"I have been talking with colleagues, watching other webinars, and researching the latest trends in youth coaching," he shared.

"I think it's important that we are sharing of concepts and methods to make junior coaches more efficient in the teaching," he added.

The Youth Coaching workshop by Peter Lonergan is part of a series of online webinars organized by FIBA in the Gold Coast.
