Leaders of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Local Organizing Committee meet in Switzerland for official debrief

MIES (Switzerland) - A group of Chinese delegates from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 was present at FIBA Headquarters today for a two-day meeting to celebrate the success of the recent World Cup and debrief the tournament.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 took place from August 31 to September 15 and was hosted for the first time by eight different cities.  It was the biggest FIBA Basketball World Cup ever produced with an expanded roster of 32 teams playing 92 games, which was viewed around the world by billions of people. 

In attendance at the official debrief was Wang Xuan, Standing Vice President and Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 and Chen Jie, Vice President and Secretary General of the Organizing Committee of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019, along with other delegates from the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 LOC, the Host Cities and also FIBA.   

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis opened the two-day meeting and officially welcomed all delegates in attendance.  FIBA Vice President and Chairman of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Coordination Committee, Mr Burton Shipley, chaired the meeting and led discussions on the World Cup and its overall success.  A comprehensive debrief occurred on all aspects of the tournament with the LOC and the Host Cities.

Mr Burton Shipley said: "We are very happy to have the LOC leaders join us today here at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball FIBA Headquarters.  After many years of planning and preparation, I am proud to say that the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 was a great success. 

"This success is a combination of hard work and dedication, not only by FIBA and the LOC and the Host Cities but also by the great number of volunteers who gave their time and energy to this event. The debrief that has occurred over the past two days has been of a high standard and we can only thank the delegates from the LOC of China for all their tireless work and commitment."
